Phoenix Takes Part in SeaFair: The Fine Art Megayacht
SeaFair: The Fine Art Megayacht
Miami Beach, FL
November 30th – December 9th
Exhibition Hours: 1-9pm Mon - Sat, 1-7pm Sun
For the very first time a fine art fair has taken the high seas. SeaFair the world’s first luxury fine art exposition is being held on the custom built Grand Luxe; a 228-foot, 2,800 ton yacht with five decks housing 28 commercial galleries. The ship will visit 38 ports on the Eastern seaboard from September 2007 through August 2008. The Grand Lux made its debut in Greenwich, CT and comes to a close in Portsmouth, NH; making stops along the way in Naples and Palm Beach, FL; Savannah, GA; Charleston, SC; Washington D.C.; New York City; Hamptons, NY; and Cape Cod, MA to name a few.
Phoenix is joining SeaFair during its Miami Beach leg from November 30th – December 9th. Among the works on display is a bronze figurine of the Goddess Astarte, the goddess of love and war from Near Eastern culture. Standing 27.5 centimeters high, the bronze is remarkable for its striking contemporary design – geometric, abstracted features and strong but sensual lines – almost Picaso-esque in nature. Another highlight of Phoenix’s SeaFair collection is an Egyptian basalt vase dating back to the Predynastic period of Egypt, between 3,500 and 3,200 B.C. The elegant vase is a testament to ancient craftsmanship considering the elementary tools available and the stone’s known hardness. Stone vessels such as this were regarded as luxury items based on the skill required to carve one, making it likely to have been owned by ancient royalty.
“Phoenix Ancient Art’s eclectic collection of high quality antiquities is the perfect compliment to Sea Fair’s unique exhibition environment,” said Hicham Aboutaam, co-owner of Phoenix Ancient Art. “The opportunity to showcase rare objects of history on Sea Fair’s maiden voyage, while contributing to the energy of Art Basel Miami was an experience we could not turn down.”
